Data Protection

To ensure thorough compliance of data protection, Tanker Accident Database will incorporate a 3-tier data protection model to safeguard the total anonymity of each data provider:

Level 1

Database Construction

The Data Collection and Analysis area will be:

  • Completely separated
  • Populated through its own data entry system
  • Hosted in a different country to the other

Level 2

Database Access

OCIMF and INTERTANKO will have:

  • Zero access to the Data Collection area
  • No Interaction with the running of the Tanker Accident Database

Level 3

Privacy Verification

To verify data protection, privacy and security, Tanker Accident Database will:

  • Enlist an independent IT resource to carry out independent third-party security auditing (Levels 1 & 2)

Trust In Privacy

The goal of the Tanker Accident Database is to analyse the underlying causes and contributing factors that lead to accidents. It is hoped with the guarantee that participants will remain anonymous and that any data provided will not be used as a vetting tool, vessel owners and technical managers will be encouraged to take part in the global initiative and help to improve tanker safety and best practice.
